Rock Paper Scissors is a work of sculptor Tim de Christopher that was unveiled on June 17, 2017. The The sculpture is located at the pedestrian park at the intersection of Avenue A and Third Street in Turners Falls. It took a year to complete in his studio and was transported by forklift to its present location.
Local red sandstone was used for the rock which carries the dates May 19, 1676 and Nov. 8, 2016 representing the dates of the Battle of Turner's Falls and the date of the most recent presidential election, respectively. Indiana limestone was used for the paper mill the Scissors barber shop building.
The paper mill represents the town’s industrial history, and a barber shop represents its social history. Both are patterned after real structures that once existed in the town. The roof of the paper mill has a signs reading PAPER on both sides. The back side is partially cut away so you can see the interior of the paper mill with workers and paper production.
Scissors Barbershop is a two story building has a sign reading SCISSORS, a pair of barber poles flanking the entrance and a figure of a man walking exiting he door. The top floor has apartments with four windows with people looking out of the left two windows.
