While you would be able to find the birds mentioned on the sign in many other locations, here you find them going about 'their daily business' of raising a family in the protection of the reeds.
From the information sign at the billabong end of the platform:
"Many birds live in and visit this place including: Pelicans, White-faced Herons, Wood Ducks, Black Ducks, Grey Teal, Chestnut Teal and Purple Swamphen. Smaller birds include Blue Wren, Reed-warblers, Latham's Snipe and the Golden-headed Cisticola. Occasionally Black-shouldered Kites hover overhead."
There is a broad wooden board as a rail, which is useful for resting your camera or binoculars on.
Access: enter at the sign for the Yarra Glen Reserve - (
visit link) [S 37° 39.663' E 145° 22.508'] there is an alternate entry from the south of the billabong.
