This pillar is situated on the 522 metre West Lomond, the highest point in Fife, Scotland. The Lomond Hills are volcanic in origin and are prominent in views around the central belt of Scotland.

The pillar is still maintained as a passive station. Number: T1NO1906

The pillar is in good condition with an eroded base. As expected, the views are extensive with only the neighbouring East Lomond blocking views to the east.

STEEPNESS: The usual route from the east is easy until the final short push to the summit. The northern route, starting lower down, is steep for most of the journey to the top.

TERRAIN: All of the popular routes follow decent paths which give easy going unless wet.

ACCESSIBILITY: The main route is from Craigmead, two miles to the east, where a minor road crosses the hills. A shorter but steeper route comes from the north, passing the Bunnet Stane. All other routes from the south and west are longer and pathless in places.

NAVIGATION: Paths make navigation in mist easy. The final summit cone also makes finding the pillar simple as well. A cairn also sits nearby.

DANGER: None if keeping to the paths. The steep northern and western escarpments of the hill, seen from a great distance, are easily avoided by keeping to the paths.

Type of Trigpoint: Triangulation Pillar
