At the backside of the church you will find this little sundial.
The arabic numerals 1 - 4 and 7 - 12, the hour stick and the letters are made of wrought iron and colored in black.
The letters say:

"Die spätmittelalteriche Stephanuskirche im Ortskern von Echterdingen wurde 1185 erstmals in einem Dokument erwähnt.
Neben dem Gemeindezentrum West ist sie heute eines unserer Hauptgebäude, um Gottesdienst zu feiern.
Der Kirchturm der Stephanuskirche
Die Grundsteinlegung des Kirchturms war im Jahr 1439. Die neugotische Kirchturmspitze wurde jedoch erst zwischen 1880 und 1888 errichtet.
Der Turm ist 54 m hoch. Für einen tollen Blick über die Filder, sind 173 Stufen zu bewältigen.
Der Chorraum der Stephanuskirche
Der spätgotische Hochchor wurde 1508/1510 aus Steinen der Echterdinger Burg erbaut. Die Chorfenster stellen Szenen aus der Passionsgeschichte dar.
Im hinteren Teil steht eine Weigle-Orgel aus dem Jahr 1984.
Im vorderen Teil des Chores steht der Altar aus den Jahren 1860/61."
