Sparwood is the first major town just as you cross the Alberta border into British Columbia and it is the second largest town along the Elk River. The population of Sparwood is approximately 4,200 residents. I must note that Sparwood is home of the once largest Titan Truck in the world.

The Kootney Rockies are a stunning backdrop for this church. It is part of the Cranbrook British Columbia Stake and is known as the Sparwood Ward.

This church is mostly very dark brick with light colored insets making for an attractive contrast. It is very well maintained with nice lawns and some very tall pine trees. A red maple highlights the entrance.

This is the second Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints that has the black and white spire, both of which are in the Cranbrook Stake, perhaps this distinguishes them from other Stakes in the Kootney Region.

Thanks Bob, one of the officers, who provided the following information about the black spire:

"Why do some Mormon churches have a black spire?

The color of the spire on a Mormon church building has no symbolic significance, it is simply what the architect or designer of that particular building thought would look best. Most spires or steeples are white, but some are black, brown, or other neutral colors."
