Shire House is a brick-built two storey town house. It is now a retail outlet named Nelson's Eye Patch, an optician and eyeware suppliers run by Julie Nelson in Holt since 1995.
The clock is small and mounted in the second storey at the left end of the building where it may be easily seen from the road passing the building. It's painted blue with gold colouring for the Roman numerals, the minute and hour marks and the hands which have built-in counterbalancing.
This is a typical-sized clock for a clock-maker to have placed on his premises to advertise himself, was this a watch and clock maker's shop after it was a town house? The clock face looks to have been repainted recently but the clock itself is not in working condition.
