An elegant and simple gray granite monument with the bronze plaque records the history of a respectful transfer the remains of early Jewish settlers of Dallas, who cemetery at South Akard Street needed to be moved to accommodate growth and expansion in downtown Dallas.
In 1956 these graves were exhumed respectfully and transferred with reverence to the Temple Emmanu-El Jewish Cemetery in the Uptown area of Dallas, where they were reburied together in a beautifully landscaped area in the center of the cemetery.
The sign on the monument reads as follows:
"On November 15, 1956, the graves of these early Jewish settlers of the Dallas community were transferred with care and reverence to this designated area. These graves were located originally on South Acord Street in Dallas’ first Jewish cemetery (1873-1886)

Near the sign are a row of graves of those folks who were butied in the old cemetery, but whose identites were and are to this day unknown. These unknowns are buried in a row, near the center of the relocated graves.
