Inside the spacious modern building of the Armidale Regional Airport is a photo of Donald Shand, with a plaque to detail the reason of his commemoration.

The plaque below the photo of this distinguished gentleman reads:

	 "DONALD MUNRO SHAND
   "Father" of East-West Airlines" [sic]
	Don Shand (1904-1976)
Armidale grazier, farmer and businessman,
was instrumental in forming, and was
foundation Chairman of East-West Airlines
which pioneered regular air transport to
	Armidale in 1947.

Mr Shand was described as "a prime mover"
a great Australian and a good
	ambassador for Australia"

The Australian Dictionary of Biography website has a very interesting article on Mr Shand, who, being married twice, died childless on 7 November, 1976. Donald Shand
