The top part of the sign reads:
"This forest is part of lands traditionally visited seasonally by Dharug, Guringah and Gammeriagal Aboriginal Peoples to obtain resources for daily life. One of more than 500 State Forests in New South Wales. Cumberland was established in 1939 after previously being cleared for agriculture. One third of the forest was planted as an arboretum and the rest naturally regenerated - creating Australia's only metropolitan State Forest. Cumberland is an example of the sustainable forest management principles Forestry Corporation of NSW employs to harvest timber and provide community amenities in the State Forests of New South Wales."

Opening Times
7 days a week: 8.30am - 5pm (open to 6pm during Daylight Saving). If your car is locked inside, and you want/need to get out, "please call 0429 390 871 or 0429 305 615 for assistance. A gate opening fee applies>"

There are FOUR trails shown on the map, being, !/ Sensory Trail - 350 m loop (30 min) easy grade; 2/ Palm Gully Trail - 1 km loop (1 hour) moderate grade; 3/ Forestry Trail - 1.3 km loop (1 hour) moderate grade, and 4/ The Great North Walk [which goes from Sydney Harbour to Newcastle].

'Items' shown on the map are: Forest Visitor Centre (You Are Here), Cafe, Cumberland Forest Nursery, Community Education Shelter, Picnic Areas, BBQ Areas, Walking Tracks, Toilets (including Disabled access), Disabled Access points, Corporate Facility Parking, Public Parking, and Bus Parking with different colours to differentiate: Buildings, Regrowth Forest, Arboretum, and Dam areas. The Emergency Assembly Point is also shown.

Access: If traveling west on Castle Hill Road, about a kilometre past the Koala Park [Waymarks x 2], there is a set of traffic lights, and that is where you turn left, and go down and back a very narrow bitumen road to the Forest Visitors Centre.
If coming from the west on Castle Hill Road, turn right at the set of lights [about 500 m before a non-tracking/routing GPSr shows that the Waymark is at right-angles to your route]

I had stopped in here to check out if there was actually a "Herbaria", which a 'Google' search had suggested that there could be, but unfortunately no one could point me to one.
