This sculpture was created in 1965 by artist Sorel Etrog and has gone through a few owners before being purchased by billionaire real estate developer Martin Selig. This sculpture was located at the corner of 4th and Blanchard (another property Selig owns) before being relocated to its current site among a number of other large sculptures.
Sorel Etrog passed away in 2014. He was also known for his writings and published plays, poetry and non-fiction in addition to his contemporary sculptures.
This particular sculpture is made of twisting, curvy shapes that intersect each other and remind me personally of work by the late Keith Haring. Its abstract form hints at known and recognized subject matter without actually becoming a direct representation of it. I'll leave it up to you to decide which subject matter or recognized symbol(s) this sculpture represents.
The sculpture owner's website contains a web page devoted to his art collection and you may view this sculpture as well as others.
