A nearby plaque to this abstract sculpture reads:

Perre's Ventaglio III, 1967
Stainless steel and enamel
Beverly Pepper
American, born 1924
Seattle Art Museum,
Gift of Jon and Mary Shirley

"Stainless steel, polished to a mirror finish.
The idea is that from whatever angle you view it,
the voids seem filled and the solids seems empty."

Beverly Pepper

The museum website also highlights this sculpture and it reads:

One of the first sculptors of her generation to be captivated by the possibilities of industrial materials and geometric forms, Beverly Pepper achieved a cool objectivity in Perre's Ventaglio III, which reveals no trace of the artist's hand or process, but possesses the sleek appearance of a manufactured object. Light heightens the optical effect of the sculpture, whose surface reflects the surrounding natural environment, a striking contrast with the opaque blue enamel paint on the interior of each cubic form.

Stainless steel and enamel, 94 x 80 x 96 in. (238.8 x 203.2 x 243.8cm), Gift of Jon and Mary Shirley, in honor of the 75th Anniversary of the Seattle Art Museum, 2005.200, © Beverly Pepper

DIFFERENCES NOTED BETWEEN THE INVENTORY LISTING AND YOUR OBSERVATIONS AND RESEARCH:
In my observation, this sculpture now blends in with the landscaping within the outdoor museum and in some ways loses its impact on the viewer compared to the picture I saw on the Smithsonian inventory page. The original location of the sculpture before it was relocated to the sculpture park was out in the open on a grassy lawn and looks to have had more of a presence and impact on the viewer's eyes.

Visit Instructions:
Please give the date of your visit, your impressions of the sculpture, and at least ONE ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPH. Add any additional information you may have, particularly any personal observations about the condition of the sculpture.
