The Garrick Theatre was formally the Commissariat Store and Quarters constructed in 1853 in the Old Colonial Georgian style from local clay bricks by 'ticket-of-leave' convicts under the supervision of Lt Du Cane. The building is in an "L" shape with the front, facing Meadow St, being the Commissariat Quarters and at the rear the convict store.
