On the sandstone block of the original Manly Trigonometrical Station is a square brass sheet, embossed to indicate places around Beacon Hill on Sydney's north shore.

The sandstone block stands about a metre high, and about 0.9 m square. The brass plaque is set obliquely to the stone block. On the northeastern corner is the following engraved into it:
"Erected by the
Manly, Warringah and Pittwater
Historical Society.
To commemorate the First Overland journey of
Governor Phillip
from Manly towards Pittwater
15th April 1788.
W.L. Ross, President
P.W. Gledhill, JP, Hon. Sec.
A.D. 1929."
