This statue is situated on Wharf Street in Montrose on the east coast of Scotland. It stands on the quayside on the north bank of the River South Esk near the harbour and lifeboat station and depicts a single seafarer as a tribute to the men of the sea from the area.
A plaque on the base of the monument reads as follows:
'THE SEAFARER
A memorial to the seamen and fishermen of Montrose and Ferryden.
A contribution to the environment and a tribute to WILLIAM LAMB A.R.S.A. A native of the town and renowned sculptor.
Erected by Montrose Harbour Trustees SEPTEMBER 1978'
