The Town of Sidney recently commissioned a WSANEC welcome figure carved by local First nations artist Perry LaFortune. The purpose is to help recognize First nations culture in the community. It is mounted at the waterfront park near the band shell.

The totem was unveiled and dedicated on 21 July 2017. In attendance were the Mayor of Sidney Steve West, local MLA Adam Olsen, local MP Elizabeth May, sculptor Perry LaFortune, Tsawout Chief Harvey Underwood and Tsartlip Chief Don Tom.
