On the short walk up to the Long Reef Trig Point is this marble sculpted representation of the "Common Werrener" - a mollusk [sea shell] of this coastal area.

This is a delightful addition to the walk past the Long Reef Golf Course, as 'you' wander up to the headland. * Just remember not to take too much time, as there is hefty parking fees to pay, unless willing to walk more than a kilometre. *

To the side of this sculpture is a smaller rock, that has a cast brass plaque embedded in it, which reads:

"Turbo undulotus
'Common Werrener'
Inter-tidal reef dweller
Indigenous to Long Reef Point
Wombean white marble
Sculptor: Richard Stutchbury"

On another white rock, on the 'other side' of the sculpture is a bronze plaque explaining the 'why', and 'how' this sculpture came to be presented here. It reads:

"Sheila's Rest
A gift to the people of Warringah for their tranquility and pleasure.
Sheila Ellen Mary Wells
1925-2000
She who so loved nature's beauty"

One side of the sculpture does look like the sea shell could be used as a stone recliner. Not much found on web searches, apart from some 'Twitter' and blog entries on seeing it.

* Don't forget to check for geocaches in the area if you have the time (and money for parking fees) *
