The French and Indian War was was an attempt by the British to defeat the French and their Indian allies and drive the French from North America. At 9 am on 8 September, British Baronet William Johnson sent Colonel Ephraim Williams, Jr. to reinforce Fort Edward, at the southern end of Lake George, with 200 Mohawk allies and 1,000 troops from Williams' Massachusetts Regiment and Colonel Nathan Whiting's Connecticut Regiment. However these troops walked into a trap and soon were engulfed in fire from the French and their allies. The engagement became known as "The Bloody Morning Scout". Aaron Bagg was one of many who were killed that day, which included Colonel Ephraim Williams, Jr.
