MAYEN/ MONREAL, den 4. September 2011 Ein in Deutschland wohl einmaliges Monument, eine 5 Meter hohe JAKOBUS-PILGERSÄULE, ziert nunmehr den EIFEL-CAMINO an der alten Römerstraße von Mayen nach Monreal unweit der Reudelsterzer Heide.
Auf Initiative der Mayener Sankt-Matthias-Bruderschaft (SMB) wurde diese eindrucksvolle Pilgerstation eingerichtet. "Dies war selbstverständlich nur mit deutlicher Unterstützung von Förderern möglich", begründete SMB - Brudermeister Heinz Schäfer beim feierlichen Einsegnungs-Festakt seinen tief empfundenen Dank für das gemeinsame Mitwirken aller Akteure zur Pflege der Pilgertradition.
Ein besonderer Dank galt dem Steinmetz-Künstler PETER HÄNIG für das absolut gelungene Pilger-Monument .
Die markante Pilgerstation bietet dem Camino- und Wanderfreund in idyllischem Ambiente die Möglichkeit, kräftemäßig "aufzutanken, auch für den Weg nach innen, wird jeder erfahren können, der sich im `Dunstkreis`der Jakobuspilger-Säule aufhält" war sich die stattliche Besucherschar einig bei der Einsegnung durch SMB-Präses Pfr. Matthias Veit. Sie wurde musikalisch würdevoll umrahmt wurde durch eine Abordnung der Feuerwehrkapelle Mayen und Grußworte des Landrates Dr. Alexander Saftig, Oberbürgermeisterin Veronika Fischer, auch stellvertretend für weitere Polit-Prominenz.
Eine in den Basaltstein eingefasste Urkunde, dessen Text verlesen wurde stellt weitere Fakten zur Entstehungsgeschichte der Jakobus-Pilgersäule für die Nachwelt sicher."
