Die rote Telefonzelle auf dem Alten Markt in Euskirchen ist nun ein Bücherschrank - oder eine „Bücherzelle“, wie Bürgermeister Dr. Uwe Friedl sagte. Im Oktober sei die Telefonleitung abgeklemmt worden, und seitdem habe das Gastgeschenk, das die Gemeinde Basingstoke und Deane in Südengland ihrer Partnerstadt Euskirchen vor rund zwei Jahrzehnten machte, ungenutzt an der Ecke zur Neustraße gestanden.
„Für die Telekom war der Standort unrentabel. Heute hat ja fast jeder ein Handy“, sagte Friedel.
Er holte gestern das erste der rund 80 Bücher aus dem Regal, das in die typisch rote britische Telefonzelle eingepasst worden ist. „War Karl May früher auch schon so klein gedruckt“, scherzte er mit einer Ausgabe von „Winnetou I“.
Aber auch Bücher von Kishon oder etwa „Das Todeskreuz“ von Andreas Franz standen gestern noch in der Zelle. Ob das heute auch noch so ist, kann man nicht sagen, weil sich jeder aus dem Angebot nach Belieben bedienen darf. „Ich habe solch einen Bücherschrank schon in der Bonner Rheinaue gesehen, und dort funktioniert das System hervorragend“, erklärte Friedl. „Man kann sich zum Lesen ein Buch heraus nehmen oder selbst seine alten Bücher hineinstellen.“ Er rät: „Es ist besser, man stellt die Bücher hier hin, statt sie ins Altpapier zu legen.“
Damit das englische Telefonhäuschen nicht zum Altpapiercontainer mutiert, halten Mitarbeiter der Stadtbibliothek ein Auge darauf. Für rund 100 Bücher ist in dem nun eingebauten Regal Platz. In der Regel sollen nur ein bis drei Bücher je Benutzer ausgetauscht werden, aber das wird nicht überwacht. Ein Zettel an der Außenwand der „Bücher-Tausch-Zelle“ bringt die Grundfunktion auf den Punkt: „Nimm ein Buch - Bring ein Buch!“ Bürgermeister Friedl hatte gestern schon große Freude an dem neuen Angebot: „Endlich mal etwas, das man ohne Formulare nutzen kann.“
Brunhilde Weber, die Leiterin der Stadtbibliothek, und Bibliotheksassistentin Christiane Funken hatten die Erstausstattung der Telefonzelle zusammengestellt. „Das sind nicht immer ganz neue Titel, aber für den ein oder anderen ist sicherlich spannender Lesestoff dabei“, sagte Funken. Sie baut fest darauf, dass diese Erstausstattung genügt, um die neue Tauschbörse zu einem Selbstläufer werden zu lassen.
Brunhilde Weber ermuntert die Euskirchener darüber hinaus, nun fleißig Gebrauch von dem neuen Angebot zu machen und nahm gestern bei der Inbetriebnahme schon Anregungen auf: „Eine Lesung in der Telefonzelle, das wäre sicherlich eine Idee, die sich umsetzen ließe. Man bräuchte nur einen Stuhl und einen Lautsprecher...“
