Die Alte Burg
Die Alte Burg ist eine ehemalige kurfürstliche Wasserburg aus dem 13. Jahrhundert, die ursprünglich von einem breiten Wassergraben und einer Ringmauer umgeben war.
Die Ministerialenfamilie von der Arken hatte 1185 an dieser Stelle auf den Resten eines römischen Rundturms einen Wohnbau errichtet. Heinrich II. von Finstingen, Kurfürst von Trier, ließ dann ab 1277 aus dem Wohnbau die Alte Burg als eine Zwingburg gegen die Unabhängigkeitsbestrebungen der Koblenzer Bürger anlegen.
Unter den Erzbischöfen Johann VI. von der Leyen und Johann Hugo von Orsbeck fanden Erweiterungen und Umbaumaßnahmen statt.Unter französischer Herrschaft zog hier im Jahre 1806 eine Blechwaren-Fabrik ein.
1897 schloss diese wieder und die Burg wurde an die Stadt Koblenz verkauft.
Heute ist in der Alten Burg das Koblenzer Stadtarchiv untergebracht."

The Old Castle
The Alte Burg is a former Kurfürstliche Wasserburg dating back to the 13th century, which was originally surrounded by a wide moat and a ring wall.
In 1185, the ministerial family of the Arken had erected a residential building on the remains of a Roman round tower. Henry II of Finstingen, elector of Trier, had then, from 1277 onwards, allowed the Alte Burg as a Zwingburg against the independence efforts of the citizens of Koblenz.
Among the archbishops Johann VI. Of the Leyen and Johann Hugo von Orsbeck extensions and reconstruction measures took place. In 1806, a metalwork factory was established here under French rule.
In 1897 it closed again and the castle was sold to the city of Koblenz.
Today the Koblenz city archives are housed in the Old Castle. "
