"Zwischen 1906 und 1908 wurde die Herz-Jesu-Kirche auf einem Teil der ehemaligen Stadtmauer und dem Fangenturm errichtet und 1924 zur Pfarrkirche erhoben. Heiligabend 1944 wurde die Kirche bei Bombenangriffen stark beschädigt und ab 1957, in teilweise veränderter Form, durch den Architekten Gottfried Böhm wieder aufgebaut. Sie liegt heute mitten im Stadtzentrum an der Einkaufsmeile Neustraße und prägt die Silhouette der Stadt maßgeblich.
Die neogotische dreischiffige Hallenkirche wurde nach Plänen von Aloys Schlößer gebaut. Sie ist 62 m lang und 23,8 Meter breit und verfügt über ein vierjochiges Langhaus mit 33,9 x 11,7 Meter großem, einjochigem Querhaus und polygonalem Chorabschluss. Der vorgelagerte fünfgeschossige Turm mit Turmhelm ist 70,2 Meter hoch. Beim Bau wurde im Sockelbereich Niedermendiger Bruchstein und ansonsten weißer Tuffstein verwendet. 1962–1963 wurde das Portal aus Bronze sowie das Tympanon aus Sandstein von dem Bildhauer Helmut Moos neu gestaltet. 1975 bis 1976 und 2009 wurde die Herz-Jesu-Kirche vollständig restauriert.
In der Kirche finden ohne Kapelle und der Orgelbühne bequem 2000 Menschen Platz."

"Between 1906 and 1908, the Church of the Sacred Heart was erected on a part of the former city wall and the fishing tower, and was raised to the parish church in 1924. The church was heavily damaged during bomb attacks in 1944 and partly by the architect Gottfried Böhm, today in the middle of the city center on the shopping street Neustraße.
The neo-Gothic three-nave hall church was built according to the plans of Aloys Schlößer. It is 62 m long and 23.8 m wide and has a four-yoke long house with a 33.9 x 11.7-meter-long, one-year cross-house and polygonal choir termination. The five-storey tower with its tower helm is 70.2 meters high. During the construction, low-limestone quarries and otherwise white tufts were used in the base area. 1962-1963 the portal from bronze as well as the tympanum from sandstone was redesigned by the sculptor Helmut Moos. 1975 to 1976 and 2009, the Sacred Heart Church was completely restored.
In the church, there are about 2000 people without a chapel and the organ stage. "
