The grave of Officer Alain J.Y. Beauregard is marked by a 4' red granite marker. The front of the marker has the images of a crossed American and Canadian flags, the emblem of the Springfield, MA Police Department, a Springfield police badge number 277, and the inscription:

At 7:50 p.m. on the night of November 12, 1985, Officer Alain Beauregard and Officer Michael Schiavina stopped a vehicle on Stebbins Street in the city's Old Hill neighborhood. They approaching the vehicle that was occupied by the brothers Eddie and Juan Ortiz. Eddie fired at the officers hitting both. Alain Beauregard was hit in the head and died from his injury three days later. Michael J. Schiavina was hit in the chest and died at the scene.

The suspect Eddie Ortiz later committed suicide the next day as police closed in on him in an apartment in which he was hiding. Juan Ortiz was convicted for his part in shooting and sent to prison. He was been paroled from prison October 2014.
