Added to the NRHP in 1986, this private residence was designed by the architects Henry and Henry and built in November, 1889. The fired bricks used for construction differed from the traditional adobe of the area in being moisture resistant. The house was built for Albert Colton, the engineer of the Florence Canal and later the U.S. Mineral Surveyor. The house was later purchased by H.H. Freeman, a local businessman. His wife, Bertha Schulz, was an early woman member of the state legislature in the 1930's. The house style was an attempt to introduce eastern architectural styles into the area dominated by Sonoran and Traditional designs. The house remains a private residence.
