"Künstler: Johann A. Liebhardt/Bernhard Scheidel

"Artist: Johann A. Liebhardt / Bernhard Scheidel

Instead of a drawing fountain, the present baroque fountain was erected around 1769 on the Liebfrauenberg, which was once Frankfurt's premier place and is still a popular meeting place today. The oval basin of the Liebfrauenbrunnen is enclosed by curved balustrade with a beaded rim. In the middle of it lies the wellstock as the basis of a rusty obelisk (1970 copied by Kurt Zobel). On the sides of the bronze panels, which are entered here by the bell-makers Johann Georg and Johannes Schneidewind, Moenus and Rhenus pour water from jugs into expansive shells resting on crossed dolphin bodies. From its mouths, water also flows directly into the basin.
