A monument honoring Captain Robert W. Touchette was erected on November 11, 2000by the Marlboro High School class of 1949. Captain Touchette was flying a F-38 Saber Jet out Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, AL. Shortly after taking off the jet lost power. Touchette refused to eject because he feared the jet would crash into a residential area. Instead, he glided the plane away from the homes and into the Alabama River. He was killed on impact.
