A trapezoid shaped granite stele honors Corporal Richard A. Buttery of Sharon Springs Central School class of 1947 who died while serving with the United States Marines in during the Korean War. The trapezoid has the incised image of the United States Marines seal. Adjacent to the trapezoid is a bench with the emblems with the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard. The monument is inscribed:
