He is buried in a family plot along with his father & brother, the latter being killed during World War One. The newspaper Scrutineer & Berrima District Press found in The National Library of Australia's Trove (Digitised Newspapers) states:

The startling news was received in Brisbane on Monday morning that a tragedy had occurred at Gayndah, the victim being James Muir, 18, one of the office employees of the branch of the Commercial Bank of Sydney in that town. A railway porter, Crew, was passing when he heard four shots, and the breaking of glass. He immediately informed the police. Constable Green was on the spot in three minutes after the firing. He found the bank clerk, James Muir, lying on the floor in his bedroom with four revolver shots in his body and one through the head. A strange hat was found with the body, and the hat has since been identified. The suspect who is believed to be a stranger, has disappeared.

The Singleton Argus (visit link) reported on 10 June 1909 of the hanging of the person who murdered Muir. In part:

THE GAYNDAH MURDER.

Execution of Ross.

Arthur Ross, the English youth of 20 years of age, who shot James Muir, the young bank clerk late of Gayndah, on October 18, was executed on Monday in the Brisbane Gaol. Since the sentence Ross displayed indifference and unconcern, and according to the prison officials, showed himself one of the most hardened criminals
that they had had to deal with. Otherwise his demeanour 'was quiet, and his conduct was good. At 8 o'clock on Monday Ross, attended by the Anglican chaplain, walked firmly to the scaffold, requiring no assistance or support.
