Three miles north is site of first church in area, erected ca. 1792 under Joseph Ferguson's leadership. He led Methodist movement after settling in Nelson Co. Church as nucleus around which Salt River circuit was formed. Original log structure replaced by brick, 1816, and by larger building, 1844. Old site abandoned, 1908, and church at Woodlawn built 3/4 mi. beyond.
