An information board on Castle Road, outside the walls of Nottingham Castle.
The marker tells us a little about the rock that forms the caves. It is made of a soft crumbly type of sandstone that is easy to dig to make caves and tunnels. The caves here have been used as stables, tanneries, storage for beer, and even homes.
It is also a direction marker to the Museum of Nottingham Life at Brewhouse Yard down the hill from here, and up the hill to the castle gatehouse.
