"Central Elevator’s original owners, a group of about 39 shareholders proudly painted the Purina Checkerboard sign at the top of their grind and mix mill on March 18, 1961. That began a long history with Purina and it’s famous Checkerboard logo.
"On November 12, 1969, the board of directors voted to sell all the outstanding shares to Tom and Evelyn Roberts, Mel and Rita Peasel and Mike and Rose Ann Sullivan. Over the years the business has grown and changed. We added faster grain receiving, more storage capacity and a grain bank. We also have blended fertilizer, liquid fertilizer and are licensed for chemical application.
"With growth also came the need for added capacity. We added the Olney elevator at in 1996. Our property now covers 24 acres, and we currently have about 900,000 bu grain capacity, a delivery service, feed mill, fertilizer blender and storage.
"The original three couples continue to be actively involved today with running the elevator and store. But with the growth of business comes the need for help, so we also have a great team of employees." ~ Central Elevator, Inc.
