The ISN history dates back to 1892 as Real Instituto de Socorros a Naufragos when it was founded by Queen D. Amélia as a private charitable organization due to the high number of shipwrecks that ocurred in the coasts of Europe.
Today ISN is part of the Portuguese Navy but it keeps the same principals and mission. To assist every individual no mather what is nationality is no mather if it´s friend or foe no mather if the country is at war or in peace.

65 Life Saving Boats
140 Smallboats
24 Off Road Vehicles
During Summer season ISN is also responsible for the lifeguards on the beaches and operates a large quantity of ATV´s and water scooters.
