Februar 1956 in Betrieb genommen.

"After a construction period of 20 months the Stuttgart TV tower was put into operation on 5 February 1956. With its impressive height of 217 m it is the original model for the television towers around the world.

Originally, the then Southern German radio wanted to place its antennas for the broadcasting of the television and FM radio stations on one of the then usual 200-meter-high wire lattice masts secured with wire ropes. This monstrous project called the Stuttgart engineer Prof. Fritz Leonhardt, known as bridge builder and structural engineer. His idea was instead of an ugly lattice mast to grow an elegant Betonnadel from the forest of Degerloch and to provide these with a tourist and gastronomic usable tower basket with viewing platforms ...

Today the TV Tower is a popular landmark in Stuttgart. Enjoy the view (in good weather to the Swabian Alb!) From the Turmplattform and from the Turm- and Panoramacafé! "
