FR Entre Manosque et Saint-Michel-l'Observatoire, non loin de la rivière Largue, Lincel est blotti au pied d'une colline anciennement fortifiée qui occupait une position stratégique sur la voie domitienne.

Citée en 1155 dans une bulle du pape Adrien IV comme possession de l'ordre du chapitre Saint Mary de Forcalquier, l'église Sainte-Marie-Madeleine de Lincel est un bel édifice roman en forme de croix latine, à chevet plat et à toit de lauzes.

Une courte notice rédigée par des archéologues en 2016 permet d'établir les grandes étapes de son histoire. La nef semble être la partie la plus ancienne et remonterait au XIIe siècle ; le choeur et le transept seraient du XIIIe ou du XIVe ; la voûte de la nef a été reconstruite à l'époque moderne, peut-être à la suite d'un effondrement ; elle aurait justifié la construction des puissants contreforts extérieurs destinés à soutenir les murs latéraux.

En 1973, l'ancienne commune de Lincel fusionna avec celle de Saint-Michel-l'Observatoire. La chapelle fut inscrite à l'inventaire supplémentaire des monuments historiques en 1988. Aujourd'hui, l'association locale "Sainte-Madeleine" oeuvre activement pour l'entretien et la restauration de ce patrimoine. La façade fut restaurée et débarrassée de son crépi encrassé après 2013.

Une anecdote historique est à mentionner à propos de Lincel : en 1511, une invasion d'insectes ravagea les cultures. Les habitants réagirent en intentant un procès à ces animaux ! L'officialité rendit son verdict, qui condamnait les insectes à disparaître ...

Cited in 1155 in a bull of Pope Adrien IV as possession of the order of the chapter Saint Mary of Forcalquier, the church of Sainte-Marie-Madeleine of Lincel is a beautiful Romanesque building in the form of Latin cross, with flat roof and roof Of lauzes.
