A life-size figure of a Union Civil War soldier stands multi-tiered granite pedestal and base set on top of three steps. The soldier is wearing uniform which includes an overcoat, cape, and cap. He is standing at parade rest, holding the barrel of a rifle vertically with both hands, left over right. The butt of the rifle rests on the ground near his right foot.
Dedications appear on the front and the back of the monument.
