FR La chapelle Notre Dame de Liesse ressemble à une petite cabane construite en dur, abandonnée au sommet de sa montagne. Entourée de pins et de rochers aux formes adoucies par les millénaires, elle offre son flanc droit à l'à-pic de la barre rocheuse qui plonge jusqu'au fond de la combe qui la sépare de la colline des Espiguières. Vertige garanti. Si les corbeaux qui hantent cette falaise sont habitués à ces hauteurs, le promeneur aura tôt fait de regarder à deux fois où il met les pieds de peur de butter sur un caillou et de perdre l'équilibre.

L'histoire (ou la légende) veut qu'elle fut érigée au Moyen-Âge. La région était jadis seigneurie des Blacas. Une dame d'Aups appartenant à cette riche famille, avait pris l'habitude de monter tous les jours au sommet de la barre pour guetter le retour de son cher fils parti aux Croisades et prier pour qu'il lui revienne sain et sauf. Ainsi fit-elle le voeu d'édifier une chapelle en ce lieu si jamais son fils revenait de Terre Sainte. Et lorsque celui-ci revint finalement, toute la région s'en réjouit, et c'est dans cette liesse générale que l'on édifia la chapelle.
EN The chapel of Notre Dame de Liesse resembles a small hut built in hard, abandoned at the top of its mountain. Surrounded by pine and rock formations softened by millennia, it offers its right flank to the steep rocky bar which plunges to the bottom of the valley that separates it from the hill of the Espiguières. Vertigo guaranteed. If the crows that haunt this cliff are accustomed to these heights, the walker will soon have to look twice where he sets foot for fear of stumbling on a pebble and losing balance.

History (or legend) wants it to be erected in the Middle Ages. The region was once the lordship of the Blacas. A lady of Aups, who belonged to this wealthy family, had grown accustomed to going up to the top of the bar every day to watch for the return of her dear son to the Crusades and to pray that he might return to her safe and sound. Thus she vowed to build a chapel in this place if her son ever returned from the Holy Land. And when the latter finally returned, the whole region rejoiced, and it was in this general jubilation that the chapel was erected.
