Die bereits seit Langem geplante Umgestaltung des Château-Renault-Platzes in Mülheim-Kärlich nimmt konkrete Formen an. Die Weichen dazu hat der Stadtrat in seiner jüngsten Sitzung einstimmig gestellt.
Er beschloss die Erweiterung des bestehenden Architektenvertrags um die Punkte Genehmigungs- und Ausführungsplanung sowie Vorbereitung der Vergabe und Mitwirkung bei Vergabe und Objektüberwachung. Die Arbeiten müssen spätestens zum 1. Dezember dieses Jahres beginnen, da das Land das Projekt mit 480 000 Euro fördert und der Zuschuss ansonsten verfällt.
Die Gesamtkosten belaufen sich auf rund 1,3 Millionen Euro. Mülheim-Kärlich muss einen Eigenanteil von rund 800 000 Euro stemmen. Eine stolze Summe, wie die Fraktion der Freien Wähler Gemeinschaft (FWG) findet. Deshalb solle die Stadt schauen, an welchen Stellen sie Kosten senken kann. "Wir denken, dass wir mit billigerem Baumaterial Geld sparen können. Viel wird das aber nicht sein", gibt Stadtbürgermeister Uli Klöckner (CDU) zu bedenken.
Möglicherweise lassen sich aber dennoch bis zu 100 000 Euro sparen. Das hängt davon ab, in welcher Form der geplante Brunnen beziehungsweise die Wasserspielanlage gebaut wird. Nur eines der beiden Objekte wird realisiert, eine endgültige Entscheidung ist noch nicht gefallen. Zum Vergleich: Die reine Sanierung des Platzes würde rund 500 000 Euro kosten. Auf den Zuschuss des Landes müsste die Stadt dann jedoch verzichten. Diesen gibt es nur, wenn der Platz städtebaulich aufgewertet wird.
Geplant ist, den Parkplatz näher an die Rheinlandhalle zu legen und einen Aufenthaltsplatz vor der Grundschule Mülheim zu schaffen, die von 1. August an zur Ganztagsschule wird. Dort sollen Bäume und Sträucher sowie eine Wasserspielanlage oder ein Brunnen stehen. Hinzu kommt eine neue Bushaltestelle. "Gedanklich soll der Platz ein verlängerter Pausenhof sein", erklärt Klöckner. Der Bauplan ist genehmigt, kann sich aber noch in Nuancen ändern.
Voraussichtlich werden durch die Umgestaltung 20 Parkplätze wegfallen. "Das reicht aber dennoch aus", ist sich Klöckner sicher. 100 Pkw können dann noch auf dem Château-Renault-Platz parken, dafür fallen die Lkw-Stellplätze weg. Durch ihr Gewicht haben die Lastwagen dem Platz stark zugesetzt. Sie sollen in Zukunft aufs Industriegebiet ausweichen. Während der Bauarbeiten wird der Château-Renault-Platz in zwei Abschnitte eingeteilt. Das soll sicherstellen, dass Besucher bei Veranstaltungen in der Rheinlandhalle weiterhin dort parken können und nicht auf benachbarte Straßen ausweichen müssen. Zunächst soll die Fläche vor der Halle saniert werden, danach der Platz vor der Grundschule."

Approximately 20 parking spaces will be canceled. "But that's enough," Klöckner is sure. 100 cars can still be parked on the Château-Renault-Platz, but the truck parking spaces are lost.
