A dedicated section at Greenwood Cemetery was set aside for the burials of impoverished Confederate veterans who has applied for and been granted a pension from the State of Texas for their Civil War service. Although the state paid a small yearly pension, the best benefit for the veterans and their families was that the state paid for their funeral expenses and furnished a burial plot.
The small CSA veteran's cemetery is located along Hall Street at the front of Greenwood cemetery.
