The waymark coordinates are for the front entrance of the Texas Military Forces Museum. The waymark is located in the large exhibit on the history of the 49th Armored Division in the 2nd large room of the museum.

This fragment of the Berlin wall is on display in the Cold War/Berlin Crisis room in the larger 49th Armored Division exhibit.

A small sign next to the fragment reads as follows:

"SECTION OF THE BERLIN WALL
1961-1990

This piece of the Berlin wall was presented to the soldiers and airmen of the Texas military forces honor the role they played in winning the Cold War. The most enduring symbol of that conflict, the Berlin wall, was constructed by communist East Germany in 1961 to stem the flow of hundreds of thousands of its citizens seeking freedom and economic opportunity in West Berlin. A hated symbol of totalitarian rule, the wall was defaced with graffiti-- some of which is visible in this example-- by West Berliners.

Perhaps there is no more revealing comment about Communist rule than the fact it had to build a concrete and barbed wire wall defended by minefields and armed guards in towers to keep its citizens in, rather than to keep others out. The people of West Berlin swarming on the wall in November 1989 to begin its destruction is considered the symbolic end of the Cold War."

IMPORTANT: In order to visit this waymark, you will have to enter Camp Mabry, which is an operational military post. Each person over the age if 18 must provide a photo ID, and drivers must show their proof of insurance to the soldiers at the guard shack before proceeding on board.

Camp Mabry is generally accessible to the public during the hours that the Texas Military Forces Museum is open, from 1000-1600 Tuesdays through Sundays.

Please also note that Camp Mabry can be closed to civilian visitors at any time, depending on threat conditions and base operational needs.
