Bank plans Clock Tower Classic
for courthouse fundraiser

Time Stands Still Until
Courthouse Clockworks
are replaced

"Prairie State Bank and Trust in Lewistown will be hosting a fund raiser in June to put the Fulton County Courthouse Clock back in working order.

"Representatives of the bank, located on the south side of the Square, were at the April 14 Lewistown City Council meeting to request permission to close Lincoln Avenue for a cookout and car show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 13.

"In previous years the bank has held cookouts to benefit the city’s flower fund.

"It was noted that the V.F.W. will take care of the food for this event.

"County officials received a price of around $26,000 to install a “smart” electric clock movement in the 1906 Seth Thomas clock.

"Restoring the clock would cost up to $45,000, but the electronic fix would provide a clock that automatically kept track of daylight savings time, and regularly strike the hour on a schedule programmed into it.

"In January the Lewistown City Council voted to put in the last $5,000 for the project, and Mayor John King volunteered to solicit pledges, and the total is now up to $17,000." ~ The Fulton Democrat April 22, 2015
