[DE] Am Kolpingplatz in Mülheim-Kärlich befinden sich auf Initiative der CDU zwei offene Bücherschränke in zwei ehemaligen Telefonhäuschen. Ein Bücherschrank ist nur für Jugend- und Kinderbücher und der andere Schrank für die restliche Literatur.

Bonn, Bitburg oder Mainz haben es vorgemacht: Wer Bücher teilt, hat doppelten Lesegenuss. Deshalb regt die CDU Mülheim-Kärlich in einem Schreiben an die Verwaltung der Stadt an, offene Bücherschränke einzurichten, wie es sie bereits in vielen Städten und Gemeinden gibt. Die Idee dazu hatte das CDU-Vorstands- und Ratsmitglied Winfried Erbar. Der Vorstand hat einstimmig beschlossen, dem Vorschlag zu folgen und eine entsprechende Initiative zu starten. Die Bücherschränke bieten Lesestoff und sind für alle Bürgerinnen und Bürger frei zugänglich. Gefüllt wird der Schrank durch Bücherspenden. So soll auch in Mülheim-Kärlich mit der Zeit eine Art Tauschbörse entstehen, die es möglich macht, Literatur unentgeltlich zu erhalten. Der Tauschvorgang am Bücherschrank ermöglicht es zudem, mit Gleichgesinnten ins Gespräch zu kommen und sich auszutauschen. Nach Vorstellung der CDU Stadtratsfraktion sollten sich Freiwillige ehrenamtlich um die Bücherschränke kümmern, die Schränke überprüfen und unerwünschte und beschädigte Bücher entfernen. Die Erstausstattung, und die spätere immerwährende Nachfüllung der Bücherschränke könnte durch Bücherspenden aus der Bevölkerung erfolgen. Es wäre schön, wenn man die Einwohner auf diese einfache Art und Weise zum Lesen anregen könnte. Das ist der Grundgedanke, der hinter der Einrichtung von offenen Bücherschränken steht."
