On a countryroad in Langel an old tower of a former windmill, "Ippens Mühle", is located and used as a private residence today. The windmill was built around the year 1800 using older foundation walls.
History of the mill:
1586:
The first mention of a windmill operator called Weinandt in the church registers of Langel.
16. century:
Construction of the Langeler mill; it is up to the construction of the windmill of Porz a sole spell mill of "Bergisches Amt Porz" for eight villages between Westhoven and Lülsdorf.
19. century:
Construction of the tower windmill
1884:
In a thunderstorm the mill burns out completely; afterwards the production is continued with steam drive.
1905:
The steam boiler fails, production ends.
After the 2nd world war:
The dilapidated tower is restored and altered to a flat with a glazed view pulpit.
