A monument on the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Ithaca Conservatory of Music, now Ithaca College was placed on September 19, 1992. The monument contains a bronze plaque with a relief portrait of the founder of the college and is inscribed:

William Grant Egbeert was born on December 28, 1869 in Danby, NY. He made his debut as a violinist at age eight. He was educated at Syracuse University, the Joachin Royal Hochschule für Musik in Berlin. 1890-1892 and studied with Professor O. Sevcik in Prague from 1903-1906 where he was concertmeister and assistant conductor of the Sevcik Orchestra. In 1892 he was the founder and musical director Ithaca Conservatory of Music; a position he held for 18 years. In 1904 he was awarded an Honorary Master of Arts in Music from Syracuse University.

In 1931 the conservatory was chartered as a private college and later became Ithaca College. During the 1960's the college moved from downtown Ithaca to its present campus on South Hill. The enrollment has grown to about 7000 undergraduate and graduate students.
