The stations are cast in bronze, impervious to the desert sun. They were created by California artist Max DeMoss at the invitation of the Schumann family, parishioners and patrons of the church. The artist visited the site before starting the process so he could incorporate some of the setting of the atrium into his creative process. The stations are not laid out in a straight line. Rather they require a bit of wandering through the cactus.
