This is within easy sight of the Portal Trig Point - TS10371, which is also a Waymark, as a Trig, and, as an additional Orientation Table. Caution is required when approaching that though, as it is unfenced, unlike this Orientation Table.

The drawing part of this information sign shows and identifies the following localities:
* Lapstone (just over the steep gully)
* Wollemi National Park south boundary - 32 km (of the Wollemi Pine "fame")
* Yengo National Park, south boundary - 62 km
* Richmond - 24 km
* Emu Plains - 5 km
* Victoria Bridge (Great Western Highway)
* M4 Bridge - quite visible
* Panthers (Western Sydney's football club, and complex)
* Penrith - 6.5 km
* Nepean Hospital
* St Marys - 13 km
* Sydney - 54 km (the Capital of New South Wales)
* Glenmore Park

"The present landform of the Cumberland Plain is the result of slow sinking of the area, under the enormous weight of hundreds of metres of sandstone. As the land slowly sank, many millions of years ago, a great tidal basin formed. Thick deposits of clays and silts were laid down during this period. Slowly the sea level lowered and exposed the plain to be colonised by plants and animals.

"The soils of the Sydney Basin are distinctly different from those of the sandstone mountains. Both support a rich biodiversity. However, much of the natural habitat is threatened by urban expansion and pollution. Remnant ecological communities must be carefully managed to help protect this natural heritage."

Access: From the entry into the Lower Blue Mountains National Park there is a bitumen road down to the 'ford' at Glenbrook River - and it is DOWN! The road then winds up, becoming dirt at the turn off to Portal Lookout. It can be a bit rough on the way, but suitable for most 2wd cars.
* REMEMBER: there is an Entry Fee, unless you have a specific National Parks pass sticker. $8 *
