The house was built by the first settler in the area William Peabody, Sr, in 1740. The land was awarded to his father for services his grandfather performed in the King Philip's War. Three generations of Peabody's were active in the local and state politics and military, in both pre-revolutionary and revolutionary periods. The architecture of the home exemplifies the Georgian period.
