"Die Alte Nikolaikirche gehört zu dem berühmten Ensemble am Frankfurter Römerberg. Besucher erfreuen sich an ihrem harmonischen Glockenspiel mit 47 Glocken.
Der kleine Kirchenbau diente vor 1200 wahrscheinlich als königliche Pfalzkapelle der staufischen Königspfalz. Die erste urkundliche Erwähnung stammt vom 24. September 1264. Die Pfalzkapelle könnte Ort der Königswahlen, sowie Hof- und Reichstagen gewesen sein. Die Kirche wurde 1290 dem Heiligen Nikolaus von Bari geweiht. Später wurde die Kirche als Ratskirche genutzt und erhielt nach ihrer Aufstockung eine gotische Dachgalerie (1476) von welcher aus die Ratsherren bei den verschiedenen Festlichkeiten zusahen. Im Inneren befinden sich zwei bedeutende Grabsteine: der Grabstein Siegfrieds zum Paradies und der Grabstein von Katharina Netheha zum Wedel. Beide von Madern Gerthner (1410/1420) ausgeführt."

"The Alte Nikolaikirche belongs to the famous ensemble at the Römerberg in Frankfurt. Visitors enjoy their harmonious bell-ring with 47 bells.
The small church building served before 1200 probably as a royal Palatine chapel of the Staufischen Königspfalz. The first documentary mention dates from 24 September 1264. The Palatine Chapelle could have been the place of the royal elections, as well as court and reichstag days. The church was consecrated in 1290 to Saint Nicholas of Bari. Later, the church was used as a council church and after its addition a gothic roof gallery (1476) from which the councilors watched at the different festivities. Inside are two important gravestones: Siegfried's grave to the paradise and the tombstone of Katharina Netheha to the Wedel. Both executed by Madern Gerthner (1410/1420). "
