A 10' diameter by 6' wide sculpture made of steel, aluminum and fiberglass was fabricated at the Cornell Foundry by Jack Squier and installed on top of the Textor Hall. The Textor Disc was installed in the summer of 1967 in preparation for Ithaca College’s 75th Anniversary celebrations.
According to the artist “We made a steel frame, which was embedded in styrofoam. The piece was carved in foam and then laminated over the foam core with polyester resin and fiberglass. Finally, that was all smoothed out and covered in aluminum leaf.”
The Textor Disc is mounted in the center an 2' high octagonal stone wall filled with small stones. The disc itself features six matching concave areas on each side. A bronze plaque on the wall in front of the Textor Disc is inscribed:
