The Mount Gibraltar Reserve/Park is dedicated to Joshua Stokes, one time mayor of Bowral, in the southern highlands of New South Wales.

Going back to 1919 the local community saw the intrinsic value of Mount Gibraltar, and acquired land there under the encouragement of Joshua Stokes.

There is a plaque commemorating his work at a picnic area there, which states:

  to the memory of
   JOSHUA STOKES
    Alderman of
 Bowral Municipal
     Council
    1892-1920
 Mayor 1903-09-10

The plaque is on the right-hand side of a few steps up from a reconstructed picnic area of the 1930's) on top of Mount Gibraltar.
