Tumbleweed Ranch sits in a former cotton field in Chandler and displays implements, tractors and buildings from Chandler's agricultural past. The Van Brunt grain drill was invented in Wisconsin by the Van Brunt brothers to bury seeds before the passenger pigeons could descend on the field and eat the seeds. The company was bought by John Deere in 1911 and manufacturing continued under the Van Brunt John Deere name. John Deere's name does not appear on this model so it may predate 1911. This drill would have originally been brightly painted but it has lost its luster in the desert sun. The mechanism seems to be in place but the wood has been destroyed by years of ultra violet exposure.
