"Vertigo location filming at Fort Point, under the Golden Gate Bridge, took place on the afternoon of Friday 4th October, 1957. Contrary to popular myth, Kim Novak didn't jump into the icy cold waters of the bay and the "suicide" sequence was performed by stunt double Polly Burson who jumped off the edge and onto a outstretched parachute suspended above the water." "Once called "the bridge that couldn't be built," today it is one of the seven wonders of the modern world. This magnificent span, perhaps San Francisco's most famous landmark, opened in 1937 after a four-year struggle against relentless winds, fog, rock and treacherous tides." (
